Why does Discord go down?

Discord outages tend to hit one component at a time — voice, messaging, login, or media uploads — rather than the whole platform at once.

Common issues

Voice infrastructure failures, often regional. A specific voice region may be unreachable while text chat works fine.
Gateway WebSocket reconnect storms after a backend deploy, causing temporary "Connecting..." loops on the client.
Login and auth issues that surface as "We were unable to log you in" — often tied to Discord's edge or Cloudflare path.
Image and attachment uploads stalling while the rest of the app feels responsive.
